On June 24, 2017, DAO IPCI Team took part in the Blockchain ClimateCup Roundtable in Toronto organized by the Centre for International Governance Innovation, Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law. Jurisdictional barriers did not allow us to receive visas to Canada in time, so we participated via Skype.
Alexey Shadrin presented ‘DAO IPCI Impact Mitigation: practical concept, lessons learned and prospects’ and pointed out that conceptual goal of Impact Mitigation Project (DAO IPCI) is development of blockchain ecosystem for market-based mitigation of negative externalities starting with GHG emissions impact, and gradually embracing other negative impacts of economic activities.
Practical experience has shown viability of fundamental concept, which allows for diverse programs and stakeholders operate in the same digital environment.
Productive discussion on ways of cooperation followed.
The roundtable featured experts in international climate change law and policy with experts in blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLT) to explore practical, DLT-powered solutions for tackling climate change under the Paris Agreement.
